Walter Clayton Jr. has had an impressive college basketball career as the star point guard for the University of Florida. Although he initially received more scholarship offers for football than basketball, he chose to pursue basketball and began his journey at Iona College in Westchester, New York. During his sophomore year, his scoring average soared from 7 to 16 points per game, earning him the title of MAAC Player of the Year. After his sophomore year, Walter Clayton Jr. transferred to the University of Florida, where he developed into an NBA prospect.
After examining the teams entering the NBA lottery next month, I concluded that the Miami Heat would be the best fit for Clayton. Their current point guard, Tyler Herro, is more of a combo guard, better suited at two positions. The Heat culture is precisely what Clayton needs to help keep himself in check. This is a player who once weighed as much as 215 pounds but shedded 30 pounds to become the player is is today. With weekly weight in, and an atmosphere that’s built on professionalism, who would be more suitable than just going to one of these known for losing bad culture organizations?
Clayton would excel in Heat culture, where the team is built on hard work and perseverance. He wouldn’t be expected to be star in Miami, all would be asked of him is that he shows up for work and do what’s asked of him by the organization.
