De’Aaron Fox was involved in a three-team trade that sent him to the San Antonio Spurs. The Spurs are currently in 12th place with a record of 21-25. Adding Fox significantly enhances the San Antonio Spurs’ chances of making the playoffs. If I am going to predict that the Spurs will make the playoffs, it’s only fair that I predict which teams will not make the playoffs. However, before getting into that, let’s first discuss how De’Aaron Fox ended up in San Antonio.
The rise and fall of the Kings
Under the supervision of Coach Mike Brown, De’Aaron Fox led the Sacramento Kings to clinch the number three seed in the Western Conference, marking their first playoff appearance in 16 years. Despite being eliminated in the first round by the Golden State Warriors, there was a consensus that the Kings were on the right path. However, during the 2023-24 season, the Kings took a step back, finishing in the ninth seed and losing in the NBA play-in game.
Fast forward to the 2024-25 season: the Kings started the season with a 13-18 record before Mike Brown was fired. While it’s unclear exactly why he was let go, Brown did ridicule De’Aaron Fox in a press conference following a loss to the Bulls, which likely contributed to his firing. With Brown gone, the problems in Sacramento obviously still persisted. The Kings went on a seven-game winning streak under Coach Doug Christie, but Fox still wanted to leave.
De Aaron Fox was eventually traded to the San Antonio Spurs, where he now has the opportunity to play alongside the league’s most promising young talent, Victor Wembanyama. If this duo can develop a good rapport on and off the court, their potential is limitless. With a supporting cast that includes Chris Paul, Stephon Castle, and Harrison Barnes, the Spurs are poised to become a serious threat to surpass the Dallas Mavericks—who recently traded Luka Doncic—and the Sacramento Kings, Who I anticipate will be moving in the wrong direction.
