Victor Wembanyama made a powerful return to the court in his first game back after missing the end of the 2024-25 season due to a blood clot in his right shoulder — a condition known as deep vein thrombosis (DVT) that sidelined him in February 2025.
Any concerns about rust disappeared immediately. Wemby led the San Antonio Spurs to a dominant 125–92 road victory over the Dallas Mavericks, giving No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg a first-hand glimpse at what life in the NBA looks like.
A Man Among Boys
Wemby was unstoppable from the jump, using his 7’4″ frame and wingspan to bully defenders in the paint. He attempted only two three-pointers, hitting one, and instead attacked the rim relentlessly — driving to the basket over and over, finishing through contact, and towering over the Mavericks’ front line.
It looked effortless — a man playing against boys — as he finished with 40 points, 15 rebounds, 3 blocks, and zero turnovers while shooting an incredible 15-for-21 from the field. His combination of size, skill, and efficiency left Dallas with no answers.
Supporting Cast Shines
The No. 2 overall pick, Dylan Harper, came off the bench and delivered 15 points, showing flashes of star potential in his debut.
Last season’s NBA Rookie of the Year, Stephon Castle, looked poised and confident, orchestrating the offense with control and energy.
And though De’Aaron Fox didn’t play, his presence on the roster hints at just how dangerous this Spurs team could become once he’s back in uniform.
If last night was any indication of what this young San Antonio squad is capable of, the Spurs appear ready to punch their ticket to the NBA Playoffs for the first time since the 2018–19 season.
