The Houston Rockets traded Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the 2025 10th overall pick, and five second-round draft picks in exchange for Kevin Durant. Considering that the Rockets gave up young talent, defensive talent, and valuable draft picks in this deal, it isn’t easy to believe that Houston got the better of this trade.
Two Starters are being shipped to Phoenix.
Jalen Green is 23 years old. He’s an athletic wing who averaged 21 points a game this past season. Brooks played 75 games with the Houston Rockets. He averaged 14 points in 31 minutes of action. He shot 42% from the field and a career-high 40% from behind the three-point line. Losing Dillion means losing defense; unfortunately, Durant will not be able to help in that department.
Draft Picks
The Houston Rockets traded this year’s 10th overall pick, along with five future second-round picks, which ideally should have been a deal breaker for them. Before the trade, the Suns held the 29th pick. However, due to this deal, they were able to acquire the 10th pick, which they originally owned. When the Suns select on Wednesday night, they will have some talented players available.
Does Kevin Durant make the Rockets a contender?
Kevin Durant’s game can be summarized in three words: “He can score.” Despite being one of the tallest players in the NBA, he averages only seven rebounds and one block per game. Moreover, he has a history of injuries, does not play defense, and will be 37 years old when the NBA season begins. If we look beyond his scoring ability, Durant resembles a kid on the playground who gets picked just for being taller than everyone else. Houston will likely regret this trade, as they gave up valuable pieces for a “diva with a jump shot.”
