Stephen Curry
Suppose you ask a random young basketball fan. ” Who is the best Point Guard of all time?” They would most likely say Steph Curry. But I think they are wrong. Here’s why.
Steph Curry is one of the most influential players in basketball history, famous for popularizing the three-point shot. He has won four NBA Finals, been named NBA MVP twice (including the first unanimous MVP), and holds the record for the most three-pointers made by a player.
However, Steph Curry lacks some of the key components to make him a true point guard. Despite his greatness, Steph Curry fails to involve his teammates or help them improve effectively. He is very significant at shooting and dribbling, his play-making skills are “lackluster ” as he wouldn’t be able to run a team and get his teammates in position to be successful on the court.
That’s why, in my opinion, the best Point guard of all time is the five-time NBA champion, three-time NBA MVP winner, three-time NBA Finals MVP winner, and twelve-time NBA All-Star player. Magic Johnson.
The reason I say this is because Magic Johnson is one of, if not the best, playmakers of all time. Unlike Steph Curry, Magic Johnson knew how to get his teammates in position for success. Magic Johnson was not a score-first guard; he was the type of player you would give the ball to in clutch moments, fully trusting him to secure the best shot.
That’s why, in my opinion, the best point guard of all time is Magic Johnson. Steph Curry is a great player and one of the best all-time, but he is not a true point guard; if anything, he is more of a shooting guard.
