The pain of being a New York Fan
Being a New York sports fan used to mean something. It meant championships, pride, and powerhouses. From the Yankees’ dynasty to the Knicks’ golden era at the Garden. This city once ruled American sports. Now adays being a New York sports fans has become a test of loyality, patiences and pain,
🏆 Decades Without Glory
The numbers don’t lie. A New York team hasn’t won a championship since New York Giants did so in 2012 .The Yankees won in 2009. The Knick won in 1973, an The Jets beat the Baltimore Colts in 1969. The Nets made back-to-back Finals in the early 2000s. Even the Rangers and Islanders, in hockey, have struggled to return to the mountaintop.
Money Doesn’t Buy Rings
What’s most frustrating is that these teams spend big. The Yankees always have one of the highest payrolls in baseball. The Knicks are among the most valuable franchises in the NBA. The Mets’ new owner, Steve Cohen, dropped historic amounts of money for disappointing results. It’s not for lack of investment. It’s a lack of results.
Hope Always Hurts
Every year, New York fans convince themselves this could be the year. Especially when Aaron Judge hits 62 homers, or When Jalen Brunson drops 40 points in a playoff game. However it always ends in heartbreak. Despite the suffering, fans in New York remain some of the most passionate, and vocal supporters in the world
Conclusion: Waiting for the Day
Eventually one of the New York teams, has to come through. Maybe it’ll be the Knicks, who are the favorites to come out the Eastern Conference this year. Maybe the Jets, ending their 50+ year drought. Or maybe the Yankees will return to their winning ways.
