Some of the top baseball pitchers of the 1990s:

Greg Maddux

Team: Primarily Atlanta Braves.

Achievements: Maddux won four consecutive Cy Young Awards from 1992 to 1995. Known for his exceptional control and intelligence on the mound, Maddux was a master of mixing speeds and locating pitches precisely. He had an incredible ability to force ground balls and avoid hard contact despite not having overpowering stuff.

Randy Johnson

Team: Seattle Mariners and Houston Astros during the 90s

Achievements: Johnson won his first of five Cy Young Awards in 1995. Standing at 6 feet 10 inches, his intimidating presence, 100+ mph fastball, and devastating slider made him a feared opponent. He was known for his high strikeout rates and led the league multiple times.

Pedro Martinez

  • Team: Primarily the Boston Red Sox and the Montreal Expos in the latter half of the decade.
  • Achievements: Pedro won his first Cy Young Award in 1997 with the Montreal Expos and his second and third in 1999 and 2000 with the Boston Red Sox. Although he was not as physically imposing as other pitchers, his outstanding changeup and ability to mix speeds made him extremely difficult to hit.

Roger Clemens

  • Team: Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays.

Roger Clemens Deserves Better
  • Achievements: Clemens, known as “The Rocket,” won the Cy Young Award in 1991, 1997, and 1998 during the 90s. Renowned for his powerful fastball and competitive nature, Clemens was one of the most accomplished pitchers of all time, known for his ability to strike out batters and dominate games.

Additional Notable Pitchers of the 90s:

  • Curt Schilling: He established himself as a standout big-game pitcher, with awe-inspiring performances during postseason play.
  • David Cone: Renowned for throwing a perfect game in 1999, he had notable tenures with the New York Yankees and the New York Mets.
  • Orel Hershiser: While his peak occurred in the late 1980s, Hershiser remained significant in Major League Baseball throughout the mid-1990s.
