The Women’s Professional Baseball League (WPBL) will make history with its upcoming tryouts in Washington, D.C., from August 22 to August 25, 2025.
This will be the first women’s professional baseball league in over seven decades. This follows the legacy of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League that folded in 1954.
There’s an expectation of over 600 players coming to try out. All with hopes to earn a spot in the league’s inaugural season. The WPBL aims to provide opportunities for elite female baseball players to compete at the highest level. This league hopes to fill a gap in professional sports that has existed for generations.
Adding to the significance of the event. Maybelle Blair, a 98-year-old former AAGPBL pitcher and advocate for women in baseball. Will serve as the league’s honorary chair for the tryouts. Blair has spent decades championing the inclusion of women in baseball and sees this moment as a culmination of years of effort.
League organizers say the WPBL will feature competitive play, national television coverage, and a platform for female athletes. To help showcase their talents on a global stage. With growing attention on gender equality in sports, this tryout marks a pivotal turning point in the history of the game.
The league is encouraging fans of women’s baseball to attend the tryouts. League official wants everyone to witness history.
“This isn’t just about baseball—it’s about representation, opportunity, and changing the future of the sport,” said WPBL Commissioner Amanda Kingsley.
The season is expected to launch in the spring of 2026. There will be teams representing cities across the United States.
